Old test databases and leftover logs removed from the server
The database server was still carrying five databases left over from early development and testing, next to the one WBSender actually runs on. We backed them up and removed them, so the server now holds only live data. We also removed the last copy of the old 31 GB database log.
Highlights
- Five leftover test databases removed, each backed up first
- The server now holds one application database, the live one
- Your data was not touched: the live database had the same 144,200 contacts before and after
- The database log folder went from 790 MB to under 5 MB
- The record of who signed in to the database was kept before the old log was removed

Five leftover test databases removed
Alongside the live database, the server still had five others from earlier stages of the product: old test copies, a local development copy and an empty one. Between them they held about 73,000 records of test data. Nothing running on the server used any of them.
Data that nobody needs is still data that has to be protected, backed up and thought about. The simplest way to keep it safe is not to keep it.
What we did:
- Checked the database's logs for the last four days. They show activity on the live database only, and none on the other five.
- Took a backup of each of the five and checked the record counts matched, in case anything in them is ever wanted again.
- Removed them.
- Checked the live database straight afterwards. It held the same 144,200 contacts as before.

The last copy of the old 31 GB log is gone
On 6 October we compressed the old database log from 31 GB down to 786 MB and set up daily rotation. That compressed copy was still on the server.
Before removing it we read through all of it, from May 2025 to October 2026. Most of it was routine housekeeping messages from the database engine. The part worth keeping was the record of every sign in to the database, so we saved that separately. It came to under 1 MB.
What changed:
- The 786 MB archive was removed.
- The log folder now holds only the current log and the last few days, which the daily rotation looks after by itself.
